"Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" — Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development (1987).
Since 2016, we have been committed to this approach in an effort to contribute to a hygiene and cleaning industry that is more respectful of our habitat and our health. Chemistry is part of our daily lives and has revolutionised our quality of life. However, some of its excesses make us aware of our responsibility as manufacturers and spurs us on to make our activity more respectful of our surroundings in the long term.
This approach starts with the eco-design of our tablets. Comprehensive analysis of the life cycle of our products enables us to seek improvements at each stage that will reduce our impact.
In terms of formulation, this is reflected in solutions based on ingredients of natural origin and biodegradable. We do not use preservatives such as methylisothiazolinone in our formulations or any other substance that could have a strong negative impact on human health or the environment: indeed, we do not have any substances classified as carcinogenic or persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT).
The packaging is not overlooked: the water-soluble flowpacks that surround our products are 97% biodegradable and are composed of 15% recycled materials.
Our boxes are made in France from 100% recycled fibres and are 100% recyclable.
On the industrial side, we do not consume water, thus preserving our natural resources. As for the energy consumed, our activity requires very little and we are striving to progressively invest in carbon neutral systems (e.g. changing the heating system).
Eurotab has used Life Cycle Assessment software developed by independent experts, EVEA, since 2016.
This is a highly valuable tool for implementing the eco-design approach for our tablets. It allows us to measure the environmental impact of our tablets from the raw material to the packaging.
With each new tablet, we carefully measure four impact criteria that we deem to be priorities:
By changing raw materials and components, working closely with our partner suppliers, reviewing our industrial processes and powder compression techniques, we can measure the reduction of these four impacts, identify areas for improvement and prioritise them.
Through the LCA tool and our actions, we have substantially reduced the weight of the all-in-one dishwasher tablets from 19g to 12g, a reduction of 37%.
Our cardboard boxes are much more compact with a better tablet filling rate. They require 25% less cardboard for a capacity of 75% more boxes per truck.
At Eurotab, we offer solutions that are better for humans, animals and the environment. We develop products that comply with the certifications required by our customers, such as Ecolabel, Natural Detergent Ecocert, Ecologo, USDA, Nordic Swan, Astma-Allergi, Certified Vegan, Cruelty Free, Leaping Bunny, etc.
